Judaic Curriculum

Judaic StudiesThe East Midwood Hebrew Day School offers a full range of Hebrew Language and Judaic Studies classes to its students in each of the grade levels. Our Judaic Studies curriculum revolves around the Jewish calendar year. Each year, our students study about each of the holidays in a grade appropriate manner and celebrate the essence of the various holy days. Each day at EMHDS begins with age appropriate tefilah, prayer. Students daven (pray) either within the classroom setting, or with a grade appropriate minyan. Our older students participate in and help lead the reading of the Torah each Monday and Thursday morning.

Monthly, on Rosh Chodesh, our fifth through eighth graders participate in a special Rosh Chodesh Shaharit service, which is then followed by a light breakfast, sponsored by a family in honor of a special occasion during the course of the month to come.

Our Judaic Studies and Hebrew Language instruction is offered on a daily basis to each of our students. In addition to daily tefillah, students receive four periods of Judaic and Hebraic instruction on a daily basis.

Our acclaimed Gesher program enables those students who have entered the school during the course of their elementary or middle school years the opportunity to “catch up.” By working with our Judaic Studies and Hebrew language resource room faculty members, the students are often soon able to learn on a side-by-side basis with their classmates.
