Mission
What motivates our work at The East Midwood Hebrew Day School? Two urgent goals drive us.
First: to instill in our students a thorough knowedge of their Jewish religious and cultural heritage. Second: to impart to our students a comprehensive and truly practical graspof the rapidly changing world in which they live. Quite simply, our students receive religious and secular educations and experiences of the highest quality.
Our religious education aims to communicate the particulars of our faith and the great universal truths of Judaism. It aims also to build a sense of self worth in our students linked to the ethical code of conduct so central to Jewish teachings. Our secular education, meanwhile, carefully prepares our students with the full range of skills they will need to face the realities of today’s knowledge-based and digitally-wired world.
For so many reasons, our goals demand that the school and the parents work closely together. Indeed, view the East Midwood Hebrew Day School as a family, a school community, and not merely as an educational institution. As a living community of shared interest and passionate concern, we can bring the greatest possible benefit to our students in every aspect of their educational and personal development. We can show them, specifically, that the bicultural education they receive reflects the dearest and deepest concerns of their teachers and parents – the most influential role models in their lives.
