About Our School

image The East Midwood Hebrew Day School, Rabbi Harry Halpern Educational Center, instills in its students knowledge and respect for their religious and cultural heritage, as well as a thorough understanding of the world in which they live. The school strives to develop a sense of self-worth linked to an ethical code practiced by Jews for thousands of years.

Our secular education prepares our students with the full range of skills they will need to face the realities of today’s knowledge-based and digitally-wired world.

Our religious education communicates the traditions of our faith and the great universal truths of Judaism. It builds a sense of self worth in our students linked to the ethical code of conduct so central to Jewish teachings. Our secular education prepares our students with the full range of skills they will need to face the realities of today’s knowledge-based and digitally-wired world.

These goals bring the school and the parents together to show our children that the bicultural education they receive reflects the dearest and deepest concerns of their teachers and parents – the most influential role models in their lives.

Founded in 1956 as the East Midwood Academy, in 2004 the school became the East Midwood Hebrew Day School, Rabbi Harry Halpern Educational Center, after the long-time spiritual leader of the East Midwood Jewish Center with which we share social and athletic facilities. Now we are Brooklyn’s only Solomon Schechter School run by an independent Board of Trustees.
